Default PT 8.0 and AMD X2 4800 are they compatible?

Hi everyone,

I was just about to lash out and spend the $$$ on PT8 and plugin upgrades when I heard that my system may not be compatible...

Has anyone had issues with AMD X2 4800 chips from the 939 socket days? I'm on an A8N SLE premium board, been rock solid for me. Still lists as compatible in 7.4, I can't find it listed for 8.

cheers,
Haggis

PT8 worked great with mines, but I upgraded to a quad because of Omnisphere ( major cpu hog ).

Peace

There were no issues until 8.0 was released.
Now it seems to be hit or miss.

I've had 8.0 briefly on mine: AMD 64 X2 4800+ socket 939 on an ASUS A8V Deluxe. No real issues for the little bit I used it. Went back to 7.3.1cs7. Problem with a jumpy cursor - doesn't affect anything and it is logged for a fix (it's also in 7.4 for me) - and I don't like the GUI. I'll eventually move up, when Shane gives 8.x his blessing.

Cheers,

It seems not everyone has the same story, I might be better to hold off unless you’re willing to gamble a little

Haggis,

If you really want to try 8.0, just get Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost - you really should have one of these programs and use them religiously - and make an image of your system drive just before you uninstall your current Pro Tools and install 8.0. Then, if 8.0 goes south, you can just bring back the image you made and it will be like you never installed 8.0.

I imaged my 7.3.1cs7 Pro Tools, uninstalled and installed 8.0, tried it, didn't particularly like it although I had no real issues runing it, made an image of 8.0 for when I want to go back and just brought back my 7.3.1cs7 image. Took not much more time than the uninstall/install and saved oh so many headaches.

Cheers,

Definitely use Ghost or Acronis to revert back to a working setup.
My horror story attempting to use PT8 with a AMD x2 4400 processor and ASUS A8V motherboard is chronicled here:
http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...=PT8+CPU+Usage
I eventually built a quad-core Intel based system as PT8 was basically unusable with my previous hardware. Of course, your mileage may vary...
