I learned never to say "never" a long time ago, but I've not heard of such a thing in my 25 years in IT (exclusively MS-DOS and Windows).

My own music computer has been running for four years with all onboard sound devices disabled, and the only speakers are the ones connected to my 003 Rack. My 003 is my "default audio device"...that's how I listen to YouTube and CD's...no problems yet...
you got one d i though it was about more then one interface and this work's and you do have a source connected at all time's HUM...............................

Does Pro Tools even give a wooly rat's ass what your default audio device is?
I wish ProTools didn't care. But the problem has been that when the Ultra 8r is set as the default audio device, 2 bad things happen:

1) I get the error 'Playback engine does not support...' when launching protools.

2) sample rate is mismatched when playing streaming audio from the web.

So I have 2 audio devices now. The Ultra 8r, and the mother board device.

So far, now that I always turn on my mixer first, then the PC, I have not had a problem with the default device changing back to the Ultra 8r. Thanks papajoe!

This is just an annoying problem. I like my rig to be smooth. Just want to think about the music not the PC config all the time.
