Seems that mic'ing my amp to Focusrite produces better tracks?
Seems that mic'ing my amp to Focusrite produces better tracks than plugging my guitar jack directly to the Focusrite and activating the INST button. Just my newb observation while trying things out.

Re: Seems that mic'ing my amp to Focusrite produces better tracks?
This is usually the case for most electric guitars unless you’re using any amp simulation plugins or going through effects pedals when going direct.
You’re recording the sound and color of the guitar amp when miking the amp. You get none of that when going direct. The INST button on the Focusrite does not provide any effects or amp coloration to the signal. |

If you wanted to try tracking with a guitar plugin, you can try the Eleven plugin that comes with your Pro Tools subscription.
You would plug your guitar directly into the INST input of your interface, then you would insert Eleven onto the track you want to record your guitar part on. Some like to record guitar this way, while others prefer to mic up an amp. It's really up to you and whatever gives you the best results. |
