Default Bluetooth Speaker and 48KHz not supported?

I am using the latest version of Pro Tools Intro on a Dell XPS laptop, windows 11, 32 G ram.

All I want to do is listen back to the provided demo track on my Bluetooth speaker but when it tries to play it back, I get this error:

The current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 48KHz.

I select:

Playback Engine: Windows Audio Device
Input: None
Output: the speaker

Note that I am able to play it back with my Sony headphones just fine doing the same thing.

Is this really a thing (not supporting a sample rate) for bluetooth speaker?

Yes it's really a thing. And worse, audio on Windows has been a long-term mess.

On Windows platforms you are almost always way better off by getting a proper audio interface with native ASIO support (not one that uses ASIO4ALL). The Focusrite 2i2 is a frequently recommended beginner interface that supports ASIO. If you want to connect up low-end bluetooth etc. speakers to that to hear how a mix sounds you can find speakers that also have a line input. Or just bounce the mix to disk in the distribution format and sample rate you are going to use and then play that back in your intended player on the BT speakers... that can be a better way of judging a mix on speakers like this because you are including dealing with any format conversion/encoding/sample rate changes and playback player silliness.

Thanks. I have a proper audio interface, two in fact. But sometimes I just want to sit on the couch with the laptop and the session and review it and make little tweaks without having to setup an interface and speakers. I guess I'll use the Sony headphones for that. Or try another bluetooth speaker.

Ever since day one. And because PT is now cross-platform, some of that stool also affects macOS.
