Default splitters...

Can someone tell me the best way to use a splitter.. I have a 4 chnl Horizon with direct out and iso out... which should go to the live console and which should go to recording? I notice a big difference in the two.. but not sure which is the best way... I'm doing some live remote recording... thanks

Hey Tim,

IMO, In this case, with just four channels, unless you're supplying the phantom power, it's probably best to use the iso out to your rig. That way you won't have to plug into the same AC circuit as the FOH guy to avoid ground loops.

At least, that's the way I like to do it. That said, you said you noticed a big difference, can you elaborate?

I noticed things being really thin in the house pa.... so the iso does not pass phantom? How do I power my phantom mics?

When the PA sounded thin, who was getting the iso and who the direct? Whoever is on the direct supplies the phantom.

If it's a transformer splitter (which it doesn't have to be, you just said it was a Horizon), the phantom won't go through the iso side. If you want to see a picture, you can go to jensen transformers and check out numerous diagrams.

the house was getting the direct and the rig was getting the iso... it was on only one voc chnl that I was having a problem on.. it was a Beta 58.. I used 2 seperate splitters, exchanged the mic, the cables and still had the problem.. I was thinking I was sending the outputs in the wrong direction... I had read in another forum to send the iso to the house... I'm a little confused now.. thanks, tim
