Re: LittleLabs IBP
Hi steve,
The liitle labs IBP is an excellent tool to help with phase issues, as well as a great sounding DI for recording bass. What I usually do is: (for great guitar sounds)- set up two mono audio tracks,.. The 1st track i usually come out of a guitar processor into the line in on the front of the IBP >line level out (XLR) to the Mic in of my A/D convertor...then ,(this is the fun part)...I'll run a 1/4 inch from the buffered instrument out in the back of the IBP into a guitar amp...then mic the guitar amp, and send that to the second mono audio track. I have two traks of the guitar, now the great thing about the IBP is that I can dial out any phase issues with the buttons in front, and there is a phase adjust dial. I usually play an open A on the guitar to line it up. There are no rules..just use your ears, and you'll hear an incredible difference..Jonathan is a very personable guy, and if you call him he will assist you personally. kenny

Re: LittleLabs IBP
Hrmm - this sounds like something I'd be really interested in.
Does it do wonders for the drums, or is it just better on bass and guitars? Thanks for the input |

Re: LittleLabs IBP
Never tried it on drums, but the same principle would adhere if you apply it to out of phase mics.
Give Jonathan a call or email him...He is good dude to talk to, of course he would like to sell you his product, but you get honest answers according to your recording environment and needs. www.littlelabs.com [email protected] 323.851.6860 Happy Thanksgiving kenny

Re: LittleLabs IBP
I own one and while it hasn't changed my life, its pretty cool. It is hard to dial in correctly and usually I don't have time to dick around with it too long. I've found it most noticeable on low frequency material (kick, bass). As its hard to dial in well, its a little easier on guitar/bass because they sustain and you can listen for longer amounts of time, but i've used it with double mic'd kick with good success. Another application I've had excellent success with the IBP is the ever-present problem of singer/songwriter who really wants to play guitar and sing at the same time. While one mic is kind of cool for this problem, if you need to use two you can place them wherever sounds good and try to get them together phase wise with the IBP.
just don't expect it to be easy or quick, there are range buttons and lo/hi center buttons that give tons of choices/options. and often you will bypass the unit and it wlll sound more in phase bypassed. if you have time to keep experimenting with the IBP, its great... but it won't replace good mic technique, obviously. |

Bryan:
Can you duplicate what this thing does inside Pro Tools (using nudging or the invert plugin) or is it too unique? Thanks

Re: LittleLabs IBP
To my understanding the IBP doesnt delay anything...read the first page in the manual, there's a good explination on how it works there.
http://www.littlelabs.com/IBPMAN.pdf anyways, the IBP is a pretty cool tool. |
