Default Mojave Audio mic - anyone tried one?

I caught an interesting article in a recent Home Recording magazine about a microphone kit sold by a company called Mojave Audio. The kit basically converts a Marchall MXL 2001 or an AKD A51 into a mic they claim is very comparable to a Neumann U47. Looks like the kit provides a new circuit board with a tube and a separate power supply. The kit was designed by Dave Royer, chief engineer at Royer Labs. Anyway, I'm looking for any opnions from anyone who has tried one of these (and perhaps also built the mic with the kit). The entire kit, with mic, can be purchased for $500, which at first glance appears to be a great price if the final product is as they claim.

adk already claims the a51 to be comparable with some high end neumenns. i believe they pretty much copied the design of the u87. the basic a51 costs around $400. i would try it out on its own first, before spending money on a mod. adk also makes tube versions of the a51, but i dont think you can get one for $500.

I read that article too. I'm considering taking on the project. Let me know if you beat me to it!

I probably won't beat you to it, because I have other gear needs (better converters, preamp) right now. But once those are satisfied (if that's possible!), I would like to try the Mojave Audio mic kit. Let me know if you go for it. A report to the DUC community on its performance would be great!
