Has anyone managed to get a Sandy Bridge PCI-X PTHD2 or 3 build going?

I purchased and tried the GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 but was unsucessful. I will be trying the GA-P65A-UD3 (rev. 1.0) next since PCI is still supported natively in this chipset.

For what it's worth, Intel H67 Chipsets support Integrated Graphics Controllers and are not recommended nor support by Avid Audio.

Alternatively, GA-Z68X-UD3R-B3 Rev.1 supports 2x PCI plus hosts the new Cougar Point Z68 Chipsets supporting up to a massive DDR3 2133/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules.

Hi

Has anybody built a fairly high-end dual Xeon (or possibly i7) rig for use with ProTools HD (HD3 in my case) PCIe format recently, preferably with relatively new chipset technology?

I need to move from PCI to PCIe and would prefer to avoid the clunky, expensive and usually noisy Avid-certified options.

Many thanks for any help.

As a follow up...

The machine is really fast. Things that took minutes with my old machine take seconds.

The only thing that has been flaky is importing audio or settings into a session. I don't know if I can blame that on the computer or Win7, but it seems that every second or third time I do an import it just hangs. Maybe I'm being impatient and should just go for a walk and let it finish?

Right now there is no McDSP support for Win 7, so any sessions that used my McDSP plugs aren't working, but that was a known issue going into the upgrade.

After a month or so of use, I am really happy with the machine, and I feel like I'm going to get several more years of use out of my five year old PCI cards!

Just a FYI.
I wrote about Asus P6R6 WS Revolution working with HD3 PCIe before, and I've just made another build with different parts for a HD2 PCIe build.

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R for my HD2 PCIe.
Working great right now.
