Default 001 and Studio Vision Pro?

Has anybody had any luck with 001 and Studio Vision Pro? I am running on a G4/450(AGP), MACOS9 with SVP 4.5.1, and DSI/DAE 5.0. I am using the Acadia audio system. When I try to swich the hardware setup to the Digidesign Direct IO drivers, I get the message,

"ASIO driver initialization problem: Trouble acquiring device. (-997)"

Help!

I suspect that you will find that, a) 001 (or any Digidesign hard ware, for that matter) is not compatible with ASIO, and b) SVP does not support DSI/DAE 5.0.1.

A bigger problem, in your case, is that Opcode appears to to have be shut down by its parent company, Gibson. You may find further support for SVP difficult to come by.

Sorry to go off on a tangent here, but now that a few people are actually talking Opcode, do you guys know where one can find any kind of Opcode user forum online? Now it's more important than ever to be able to swap info and tips with other users, but so far my Web searches haven't turned anything up.

Personally I love Vision DSP...it offers most of the same features like 24-bit audio and realtime plugins that PT 5.0LE promises, and also the SMPTE timecode referencing that LE apparently lacks. A few strange little quirks here and there, but I guess now they'll never get fixed, will they?

There was also a mailing list run by opcode. I subscribed to it for a while, but there was a little to much noise on it for my taste. Still, there were certainly some normal, helpful users on that list (amongst the ego-driven internet weirdos ), so you might try checking it out. I dunno if it's still in existance or not, but I found it off of Opcode's web page somewhere.

Yeah, VDSP is nice in theory, but I always managed to break it on my old machine (a 604e PowerCenter Pro 180) Too buggy, and the interface was a little too frustrating for me at times. Nonetheless, I'm going to try to borrow a USB floppy drive at some point to authorize the thing on my new G4. I can use it for MIDI when PTLE doesn't have what I need.

Here is a quick updat:

I attached a new drive to the system and did a fresh install of the OS, SVP & digi init, and it works.

SVP does hang from time-to-time with a bus i/o error, but it does appear to work.

Thanks for every one's input.

Thanks lacrimal. That was a big help...I don't feel quite so alone using Opcode now.

Actually the Vision DSP/AMIII combo is working so well for me now I'll probably just wait until my next project to mess with PT5le. I have a 300MHz G3 card and an old 5400 RPM HD that I know is fragmented big-time (hasn't been defragmented in about 2 years). And I'm STILL getting 20-24 channels of audio easilly, not to mention 4 or 5 realtime Waves plugins, channel EQs, and output dithering.

Now if only there was a way to reduce the hard disk RAM buffer to almost zero so it didn't take 3 or 4 seconds for playback and record to start...

Opcode Tech Support is now handled by
Whole Tone Systems.

Zavijah -download the newest USB drivers and the authorization fix from Opcodes website. It can be a tricky process.

Stocking Stuffer... A Dave O & Team visionesque MIDI plug-in editor that can link tracks.

I have used Studio Vision Pro and the Digi 001 successfully. Although I have been told by Digidesign tech support that it is not supported. I often go back and forth between different projects that I am working on.
