Default 96 kHz on DIGI?

The one thing conspicuously absent in all talk about the DIGI 001 is compatibility with the 96 kHz sampling rate. I'm trying to upgrade from 16/44.1 to 24 bit right now, and I'm probably not going to 96 kHz due to the decreased track count and storage issues, at least not until Macs get a lot faster and fast drives get a lot cheaper, but I don't want to paint myself into a corner with an interface that tops out at 48 kHz...especially since the DVD spec will likely be 24/96.

Most of the project studio level interfaces tout 96 kHz compatibility, but Digidesign seems strangely silent on that one.

Would the 001 handle 96 kHz? Could an upcoming software/firmware upgrade bring it to that level? Is there a "DIGI 002" with 96 capability that will be ready to ship the moment I leave Guitar Center with my new 001? What do you guys think? Let's hear from Digidesign. Peace out

Default Re: 96 kHz on DIGI?

I'm 28 and I got my first CD player in 1985, it was five years before I couldn't buy a record at a "record" store, and the general public all had CD players. I still have that CD player, and use it regularly. Digi 001 will be much the same, I'll wager that in 15 years I will have a 1 terabyte or whatever computer, that seems like a toy, with the 001 installed.(for nostalgia if nothing else)Think about it, for long as long as computers have PCI slots the DIGI 001's performance will continue to incrase. Processor, ram, and storage performance increase, and decrease in price, equals a lot of potential for the 001, 96k or not. I also have read that 96k is possible by using two channels for input and output of each 24/96 signal. I don't know the details, but either way, the DIGI 001 is the only choice in my opinion. I wouldn't ever part with mine. I think I have a much more suitable setup for my needs with a 4000+ dollar computer setup, and a 1,000 dollar DAW, than with the full TDM (especially since I'm poor, and still in college.)Go with the 001, it's simple to use, and sound's choice.

Default Re: 96 kHz on DIGI?

This was discussed on an earlier posting. If you run the Digitest application, you'll see that the Digi001 gets tested up to 96kHz. It seems to be a PTLE/DAE software restriction.... How much of a useful feature it would be to most users is another discussion. As far as I'm concerned, it's a shame but not a problem (at the moment).

Cheers,

Mike
