Default Music Production Tool Kit

Hey I was thinkin' of purchasing the MPTK. The plug ins look impressive and you could always use more tracks. I have a Mac G4 dual (haven't maxed out the ram yet)and was wondering if my Mac can handle all 48 tracks if need be. I know a lot depends on plug in usage but.....would my Mac be fast enough to handle the track count? or Is it worth the money just for the plug ins? What do the MPTK owners think about it?

G4 dual what?

A dual 867? Probably not. A dual 1.42? better chance there.

The track count is dictated more by your hard drive situation and performance than CPU though. I don't know if a single internal drive on the old G4's ATA bus would push through 48 tracks or not, there's a good chance you might need a secondary audio drive depending on how it goes with just one.

Hey Slim,

My Mac G4 dual is at 733mgz. I have two Glyph 80 gig Netdrives for my external drives. Looks like I wont be able to handle the track count based on your response.

Edit.... Is there a way to increase my Mac's performence to handle the track count? Do I need to upgrade to a faster Mac?

There are options out there. But I don't think they are digi approved. Whether or not they work could be something different entirely. But as far as upgrading goes. That depends on how much you need the extra tracks. If you think you want it more for the plugs and are doing okay performance wise now. You could be okay. If you're already pushing your system (or close) and want more tracks I'd start looking to upgrade. The new quad core Mac Pro's are amazing from what I hear. I'd like to have one myself, but my G5 is doing fine for now.

I'd look into a CPU upgrade from Sonnet, or similar. The CPU is often the limiting factor in native DAWs (you also need more RAM). The CPU upgrade to my MAC was quite impressive! It's a quick swap-out, no software changes necessary. Hope this helps.
