Thumbs down Annoying Playback Issues

I just upgraded to PT 10 from LE. I've been trying to begin recording but my PT is virtually unusable due to playback issues. One of them is that when I am recording an instrument through DI, it is incredibly fuzzy and I sometimes I also hear echoey pops that resonate when I strike a note. If I mute the track it sounds fine, though when playing back after recording I get no audio, just the echoey pops. Another major problem is the error message that says, "CPU usage is holding off USB audio. Remove some plug-ins, delete some tracks, or increase the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine dialog. (-6104)." This is the kicker that makes my PT unusable. I try increasing the buffer size but nothing. The Playback Settings I've been trying are

H/W buffer size: 64 samples
Host Processors: 4
CPU Usage Limit: 99%
Ignore Errors During Playback/Record (checked)
Plug-In Streaming Buffer: Level 2

And I'm selecting 48 KHz initially when starting a project.

Any ideas of why this is screwing up? Thanks

turn off wifi, and Firewire DHCP routing. should take care of most -6k errors.

i got rid of the "CPU usage is holding off USB audio" message by inserting a powered usb2 hub (belkin) between my audio interface and my usb3 equipped mac.
hope this helps.

Ok well my FireWire was already off I believe. I'll try turning off my wifi next.

Ok, so another weird thing. Just booted my pro tools project back up after turning off wifi and FireWire. No more error message as of yet, but now whenever I record something, it only plays back through my laptop speakers, not through my mbox2. What's going on now? Frustrating.
