Why get hybrid mode if on hdx?

It's a shame they don't have (or I don't see) an option for existing users with an active Ultimate subscription to buy in without the additional license.

Did they say they would charge? I thought they said it's coming to all HDX users in 2021 but didn't hear there would be a charge.

The carbon presentation video made it sound like it was going to cost something for the hdx users.

In the FAQ they mention it as a paid option. If this will become reality is to be seen. Somewhere next year, hopefully.

Thank you both. Doesn't really matter to me I suppose at this point. I could see someone getting carbon and soon realizing how quickly 8 DSP can get eaten up. I would imagine then some may want to expand.

You might need the hybrid mode with HDX if you are running up against its limitations, not just in voice count, but when it runs out of DSP for the mixer and will not let you add more sends, for example.

Running a test 96K session with 192 tracks, each with 10 sends to 10 different busses (no plug ins), it runs everything with no problem when using native playback engine. However, when using HDX1, the same session maxes out at 128 voices and also does not allow the last 2 sends to activate on all tracks starting at track 12, even when running only 128 tracks instead of 192.

Having the ability to offload some DSP functions to the computer to run natively could potentially really increase the power of an HDX system.

The carbon is a prosumer system right? And hdx with hdi/o or mtrx is the pro system.
