Ozone EQ?
Hi guys, borrowed a friends Mac book for a couple of weeks to see if I can get used to a Mac due to always being a windows guy. Today I decided to have a play with ozone which was on there to master a song I recently mixed. I've never used ozone before but heard it mentioned quite a lot. Now what I did find is that EQ moves are very subtle not like any of the other EQ's I use in ProTools, I may have been doing something wrong but big EQ moves hardly made any difference and when they did there seemed to be a latency before you heard the moves. At first glance ozone seems to have some great features but the EQ thing really put me off using it. Can anyone shed some light on this and if it is just user error (by me) I would ask my friend but he's not back from holiday until another week

Re: Ozone EQ?
For what I've heard mastering eqs aren't as noticeable as mixing eqs, they are supposed to balance rather than shaping. This is no always the case as you can use fabfilter ProQ for example in both cases and it'll do a great job... but if you really need that much of a change maybe it's time to go back and work in the mix a bit more.

Re: Ozone EQ?
It's not that I needed to EQ that much it's just on all other EQ's I've used you can really hear the change when making big movements

Re: Ozone EQ?
Did you have, say, multiband compression in the chain?

Re: Ozone EQ?
I don't have Ozone on my current rig but Alloy2 but I have this to say: the Izotope EQ's are some of the sweetest out there to my ear. You can pile on tons of it and may think it's not working but take it off and yes - there is a definite change in sound. You can also make them sound harsh but that takes some doing. Don't forget to play around with the eq types/curves as well. A lot will depend on where in the chain the eq is.
The Ozone you're trying - is it the Advanced one where the modules are available separately or regular where even if all you want is eq that you have to load the whole thing? |

Re: Ozone EQ?
I agree with musicman691 in that the Ozone EQ is very smooth! Take a look at the 'scale' of what's taking place and not just the on screen 'graphic'... while it may LOOK like you're making some drastic eq move it might only be 1.5-2db!

Re: Ozone EQ?
I don't think it was the active EQ, scale I think was 20, when I I use my H-EQ if I do 20db cut or boost its really noticeable

Re: Ozone EQ?
H-EQ isn't a mastering EQ. You really shouldn't be able to tell when a mastering type EQ is used until you remove it.
