Default PT puts files at random places

Hi,

I keep having this very annoying thing that , when recording, PT puts the wavs at random places instead of in the Audio Folder. Mostly they end up somewhere on my HD. How can I avoid this? Anyone experiencing the same? Any solotions?

thanks

hans

check if "Round Robin" disk allocation is on.

Make sure that is NOT selected from "Setup> Disk Allocation"

(you can also see what drive/folder is allocated for existing tracks here)

Where did disk allocation say recorded audio is supposed to go for your tracks?
Does a fresh new session do this too? (not from template)
Have you tried trashing databases and prefs?

You did say that the files record to random places, how random is it? is it always in the root level of a disk or is it sometimes nested in non-pro tools related folders? Does it generate a folder with the session title and put it in the folder or is it just an audio file by itself?

I see this configuration from a different thread you posted on:

"Apple G4 powerbook 1Ghz 1Gb RAM OS 10.3.9 PT 6.4 Digi 002 R"

Are you using this same setup?

Are you possibly opening a template session and recording/saving as a new session? If so, the audio is likely going to the audio files folder in the template session folder. A better method would be to create a new session, then import session data from the template session(so your audio goes into the correct folder).

Hi Night Train,

thanks for your reply. Sorry it took me a while to get back to this post.

"Where did disk allocation say recorded audio is supposed to go for your tracks?"
It points to the PT-folder I created.

"Does a fresh new session do this too? (not from template)"
yes

"Have you tried trashing databases and prefs?"
No, but I will!

"You did say that the files record to random places, how random is it? is it always in the root level of a disk or is it sometimes nested in non-pro tools related folders? Does it generate a folder with the session title and put it in the folder or is it just an audio file by itself?"

It's always at the root level of my main hard disk and yes, it generates a folder with the session title and puts the audio-files in this folder

"I see this configuration from a different thread you posted on:

"Apple G4 powerbook 1Ghz 1Gb RAM OS 10.3.9 PT 6.4 Digi 002 R"

Are you using this same setup?"

No, my current set-up is
Mac Pro 2x 2,66 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 3 Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM running OS10.4.11 and PT 7.4 (002 R).

I always have to check after each session if PT didn't leave any files elsewhere. I believe it happens when I record new audio to an existing session. PT names these files also audio 01 etc etc, so I end up with sessions where I have audio files whith the same name if I want to drag the audio files to 1 audio Files Folder. A real nuisance!

thank you for your input!

Hans
