Default Re: PT 2020.12 Occasionally stopping playing - Windows update service?

So i'm going to try this again (my last message never got posted.. mods said it needed to be "reviewed"??)

I went to the computer and ran into the same issues again after running down all of Avids recommendations for Windows 10's optimizations. I also found out im not on the latest Windows 10 version. (version 2009). I ran Latency Mon when it was working fine and one when it was not. I'll post the report from the one where it did not. Also i got a message for the first time when trying to stop it from freezing/lurching:

Your system appears to be suitable for handling real-time audio and other tasks without dropouts.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:00:43 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
Computer name: PROTOOLS
OS version: Windows 10, 10.0, version 2009, build: 19042 (x64)
Hardware: OptiPlex 3070, Dell Inc.
CPU: GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9500 CPU @ 3.00GHz

CPU SPEED

Reported CPU speed: 30 MHz

Note: reported execution times may be calculated based on a fixed reported CPU speed. Disable variable speed settings like Intel Speed Step and AMD Cool N Quiet in the BIOS setup for more accurate results.

__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 687.0
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 1.835343

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 685.40
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 0.698726

__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
REPORTED ISRs
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
Interrupt service routines are routines installed by the OS and device drivers that execute in response to a hardware interrupt signal.

Highest ISR routine execution time (µs): 89.338667
Driver with highest ISR routine execution time: dxgkrnl.sys - DirectX Graphics Kernel, Microsoft Corporation

Highest reported total ISR routine time (%): 0.038034
Driver with highest ISR total time: dxgkrnl.sys - DirectX Graphics Kernel, Microsoft Corporation

Total time spent in ISRs (%) 0.041498

ISR count (execution time <250 µs): 26443

REPORTED DPCs
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
DPC routines are part of the interrupt servicing dispatch mechanism and disable the possibility for a process to utilize the CPU while it is interrupted until the DPC has finished execution.

Highest DPC routine execution time (µs): 361.0840
Driver with highest DPC routine execution time: nvlddmkm.sys - NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 457.07 , NVIDIA Corporation

Highest reported total DPC routine time (%): 0.137626

DPC count (execution time >=4000 µs): 0

__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: svchost.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 347
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 286
Number of processes hit: 4

It shows you ran it for 43 seconds. I would say let it run 10 minutes minimum.

Close any programs and run LatencyMon for 10 to 20 minutes. It doesn't depend on an issue with Pro Tools, but rather will highlight any issue with real-time audio.

Looks like it's your video card's driver. Always get the updated driver from the manufacturer's website, not the third party's website. For example, I have an ASUS NVidia card, but get my drivers from NVidia's website, not ASUS', manually searching for the correct driver. And I only install the graphics driver and physx, nothing else.

Once you install the latest diver, or update/upgrade anything remotely connected with Pro Tools, do the Trasher Dance: Close PT, backup your Preferences, delete Preferences, Databases and Plug-in Databases, empty the Recycle Bin, reboot, Restore Preferences, start Pro Tools.

Whenever anything goes awry with PT, the first suggestion is always to delete Preferences.

Thanks for the help. I reloaded the driver from the nvidia site and not dell. Also trashed my prefs and restarted. I was using it today and it did freeze up again. Only once though, which is a first. Its usually every 15 minutes. Im going to run LatencyMon again and i'll post the results.

Look at the "Help Us Help You" link at the top of the forum and post a Sandra report. Also look at this Thread for more optimizations and this Thread for Processor Affinity.
