Default Mix Sliders Not Smooth Bug Discovered 12.7.1 /Sierra 10.12.4

Hello,

I have been suffering from this bug since longtime with different versions

But I discovered something, when I zoom out the workspace to a minimum, the sliders become smooth ... can anyone try it and let me know?

Best

I'm not certain what exactly you mean by "zooming out the workspace to a minimum" but I just tried messing around with this in a session that was giving me this issue and I closed out the edit window entirely so only the mix window was showing (i'm on a dual monitor setup) and all of a sudden the faders were completely smooth.

I reopened the edit window and the faders were still almost entirely smooth with just a touch of "jerkiness," if i'm being very critical. Again, closed the edit window entirely and back to totally smooth faders. Open edit again and still smooth by about ~90% (if that makes sense). Strange... but.... think you're on to something!?

I'm going to keep experimenting with this workaround in other sessions and will try to report back. Definitely would rather not have to worry about this in the first place, but hey I'll take a good workaround in the meantime.

Thank you for sharing!!

I have discovered that most often when ALL edit windows are closed (I guess thereby hiding any playbars) faders in mix window are smoothest. When I return the main edit window into view, faders are still MOSTLY smooth but not perfect.

The symptoms are worst and immediately return when I open a MIDI EDIT WINDOW.

This was a bit of a sleeper as I had been closing MIDI edit windows down too when testing having only the mix window open, but didn't really think about it.

It's interesting that specifically the MIDI EDIT WINDOW being open, at least in my experiences as of late, is making the problem the worst.

Will continue to experiment but so far this has been consistent behavior across several different sessions as it relates to the mix faders even being usable while in playback.

BTW, my setup is a dual screen, but this issue is the same where windows are spread out across two screens, or all collected onto only one screen.

Surprised there's no keyboard shortcut for moving sliders or just entering the value. Or is there?

I just completely replaced my whole rig - new iMac, Apollo interface, PT12, the whole deal. And I'm having the jerky faders issue. Never had it before. And this is with 4 instrument tracks, using the instruments that came with PT12. I tried closing the Edit window, and - voila - smooth as silk. What I noticed, too, is that even though the movement of the sliders is slow to respond, the audio itself is not. If I pull the fader all the way down, it gets silent immediately, even though it takes a second for the screen to redraw. So it almost seems like it's a video resource thing.

my guess is that the newer operating system requires more from our Video Cards .. i am hoping this is remedied in 10.12.6 .. i do not see this in PT at all but i do see my Lynx Mixer get jumpy faders ONLY while pro tools is running ... so we have some graphic hogging issues with pro tools and a video card power hungry OS possibly ..

i am not looking forward to adding a different video card to a PT Qualified Computer .. i feel it is asking for trouble ..

if you find anything else please do post back here ..john
