Ya, good idea, never thought of that. I guess I got spoiled as the assistant that finishes the cue sheets already knows that it should ignore the duplicates

Somebody just asked me about having one name across multiple crossfaded clips.

The answer:
That only works when using the session text export from Pro Tools rather than direct session import into PG PT Session (currently) and you need this option selected on the crossfades:

If the Fade Handling option isn’t set to “Combine Crossfaded Clips” you’ll get all individual clips. The only dangerous thing about this option is that if you crossfade unrelated music tracks it’ll only take the name of the first one then use that for the whole duration of the amalgamated clip (potentially across many crossfades).

Cheers,
Pete

Thinking out loud: is it possible in your program to combine start/end times (and therefore duration) if there is overlap of clips with the same name and output that as a single line? This could even bridge multiple tracks (say track 1 has a fade out and track 2 has a fade in of the same clip.)

If using your "remove suffixes", two adjacent clips that are edits/crossfades of the same clip would end up with the same name. Crossfades into different clips (which for the purposes of a music cue sheet need to stay separate even if overlapped/crossfaded) would stay as separate line entries.

Yes, I have considered doing a sort of totaliser of all the clips used in a project. The problem I had when I tried it is stuff from Media Composer - there tends to be loads of junk at the end of the filename. When I get suff from composers/music editors that's fine. I'll have a look again, maybe I could have a more aggressive option for tidying up the end of names.

When I've had to do this, I begin by splitting the mx tracks to mono. I guess if it's stereo, the list created will have two entries for each cue (.L and .R) and it is easier to read if it's only one for each cue. Then I go through and delete any clips that aren't mx (2pop) or are muted. Then, highlight the tracks you've created and modified, and export selected tracks as text. You can play with the exact setting s you need from there, but a pretty common set up I use is in the top section, to check only the "Include Track EDLs" button (selected tracks only) and then in the bottom, I usually set it to combine crossfaded clips.

I just tried your PGPT software and its dope! It's how we'll do Cue Sheets from now on.

Thanks.

I second the "it's dope" rating. I used it this week to print out Foley cues, and it is going to save me a good hour of manual spreadsheet management next time I supervise ADR on a feature (which will be soon).
