Default OMF bug using templates !!

When I use templates, importing a OMF will crash the Software (6.1).

If I open the session it will work if i import the OMF again.

When using templates the audiofile folder isn't created in the session folder, but in the folder where the template is.

When a bit of audio is recorded the Audio FIles folder is created in the right place, so the solution for me is to record a snippet of audio and then import.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm afraid all your problems are known issues. The only workaround we found was to close and reopen your template generated session before importing your OMF. and to record a bit of nothing in the template so your audio files folder goes to the right place.

Hi,

I'd like to look into this. Could one of you write up a step-by-step recipe to reproduce? Description should also include:

1. Is the OMF embedded or linked to media? Does it contain video? What application and version created it? Will it occur with any OMF?

2. You mentioned that you're seeing this with PT 6.1. Is this TDM? Does the system have AVXL? What Mac OS? What CPU?

3. What method are you using to import the OMF (Import Session Data or File>Open)?

4. Please describe the template session that you're importing into.

The more details contained in your recipe, the less questions we'll need to ask you if we're not able to reproduce.

Thanks,
Jordan

Hi Jordan !

1. Is the OMF embedded or linked to media? Does it contain video? What application and version created it? Will it occur with any OMF?

Embedded, no Video, Applications differing, only from Avid though (We have DS, Symphony, Media Composers and Xpresses att different versions). Both PC and Mac.

2. You mentioned that you're seeing this with PT 6.1. Is this TDM? Does the system have AVXL? What Mac OS? What CPU?

TDM, AV XL, SCSI, Mac OS 10.2.8 (same problem with 10.2.6), Dual 1.42 GHZ, 2 GB RAM,

3. What method are you using to import the OMF (Import Session Data or File>Open)?

Import Session Data, import as new tracks, convert clip gain to automation.

4. Please describe the template session that you're importing into.

AIFF, 16 bit, 8 mono channels, 4 stereo, 4 groups, a master, sony, and waves plug ins.

/thanks

This bug has been around since PT's 6.0. It happens when you open a session that's a Stationary Pad and create new session. Then import session data from an OMF (2.0). It crashes Protools during the import. However, if you create your session with the Stationary pad, then close and reopen it all works fine.

I've told all this to Digi Techsupport in the past when it first came up (when 6.0 first came out).

Mac OS 10.2 through 10.2.6
Dual 1.25ghz and dual 1.42ghz G4's
Protools 6.0 through 6.1
Protools TDM (24/Mix)
Protools HD

It works when using Refer to Source Media, but not when copying media

Our OMF's (that show this problem) have embedded media.

Digi Admin,

it occurs because an audio files folder is not created with the template-originated session. temporary audio files and fade files folders are only created where the template file originated. when digitranslator can't find anywhere to put it's converted files within the new session folder, it crashes Protools. The easiest workaround at present is to record a small section of audio anywhere in the session first, so the audio files folder is created THEN import the tracks.

it is completely repeatable and has nothing to do with system version or hardware.
please see this thread for more details:

hope this helps.

matt .

Okay, I'm able to reproduce the problem in 6.2. As Matt R. says, it seems to happen because there's no audio files folder created for the session. So, another workaround is to use Refer to Source Media rather than Copy or Consolidate.

I'll log it and we'll try to fix in a future release.
