Default RAM timings

In the past, I've just referenced the ASUS RAM recommendations for a particular motherboard and had great success. Getting ready to build a P6T-based i7, and I've seen a few references to "ram timing" on here, and am looking for a little enlightenment. This is new territory to me.
Thanks in advance guys, and Happy New Year! Here's to Win 7 builds with 24 gigs or memory....

the ram you buy will have it on a sticker on the side what the timings are. then in the bios it is very simple and obvious where to input those numbers and alter the ram timing to get if from say 1066 which it will default to, to say 1666 or whatever your ram is, then you can just enter the timings of 8-8-8-24 or whatever your ram is from there. very simple, do not be scared young patawan

If your lucky it will even auto configure itself. Just tale a quick look at your Mobos PDF while your waiting for all those boxes to arrive.

Unless the i9's show up before I spring for an i7, which begs the question, same motherboard/socket architecture? Haven't seen much but rumors at this point.

Just found a reference on the Intel website, even though there's no mention of the i9's, that they're going to work in LGA1366 boards. Which the P6T is. Schwing!!!!

Interesting reading there. I heard that the clock speed will be slower than the i7?

If nothing else, maybe the release of the 9's will lower the price of the 7's....

issue being if it is as flexible and tough as the 920. a standard 920 can oc to 3.6 and a D0 stepping can oc to 4.0 not many cpu can handle that degree of oc'ing.

Still, the prices should come down after the i9 hits. That's the way it has gone in the past. If all goes well I will go to the i9 and skip the i7. I sill however have not once run out of power.
