Default Recording with SBAWE32

Hi

I am using protools free with a Soundblaster
AWE32 (the Yamaha daughter card gives nice
midi). I have a problem of background noise
when recording. This noise is not there
when recording with other programs such as
Digital Orchestrator Pro. The noise is a constant hum.

Question: Is this noise due to the AWE32 only
sampling at 44.1KHz ( the card is incapable of doing 48KHz ) or is there some setting or
settings I can change to get rid of it. If
I need a card which samples at 48K can anyone
recommend a relatively inexpensive one that works.

The editing as opposed to recording features of protools free work fine with my hardware.

Thanks for any pointers.

Rick
