Track won't re-activate - 2018.1

Any solutions or workarounds? This is happening ALL the time to me, hopefully it's been fixed in 2018.3.

I've experienced something similar in 2018.3, running in win 8.1 but it's very intermittant. Basically I put a newmidi instrument in a track in my session created from my template , record midi into it and its fine. Then Save the session, open it again and the midi is solid grey colour. The tracks not frozen or inactive, it just doesn't work. But if I then open a new instrument track and transfer the midi to that, it works fine and I just delete the original track and proceed like nothings happened. I suspect, although havn't looked at it yet (too busy) ! is that the problem is in my template file. So see if any of this sounds familiar and if this little workaround helps !
Also maybe try editing your template and re-saving it in the version your using ?

I see this on Instrument tracks as well, sporadically. On my system what happens is that Pro Tools forgets the Midi Output Routing (pulldown box at the top of the track just below Midi Input Routing pulldown box) and resets it to "none". Easy but annoying fix, just reset the output to the correct VI or whatever you're using and the track comes back to life.

Humm / maybe not much help But not seeing any of this with my system.
Make Inactive and Active, works fine on Audio, Instrument, and Aux tracks
Midi recording saving fine closing session and also quitting PT plays fine when relaunched .
Midi output routing stays as original.

Have you guys tried trashing PT preferences ?

midi output issue is common.. you are actually the first person I am speaking to that doesn't have it!

what we need to determine is if the OP did indeed mean de activating and re activating, which works every time. or whether he meant things losing their midi output selections...

Interesting. I tend to work with audio a bit more than midi and I have not been working all that much in the studio since switching to 2018.1 and HS.

But I did open and close and reopen about 6 different sessions with midi on them today . I do have about 13 or 15 more previous sessions with a fair amount of midi on them, and will test opening and closing them tomorrow or the next day.
