Default Dear Avid, this is what I want for Christmas. (as in now)

Dear Avid,

All I want for Christmas is to be able to plug in my new MOTU 896mk3 (or any other 3rd party device) and record like I could back with my trusty old 001. I don't want to have to fool with CueMix anymore. It was easier back then. Plug in a freaking mic and record. JUST LIKE THAT. I didn't have to worry about LLM then. I didn't have to fiddle with a stupid console program.

Oh sure, Kev, just learn CueMIx and you'll be fine. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO FOOL WITH TWO PROGRAMS AT ONE TIME. I just want to use Pro Tools and use the stupid BOX to plug mics into. Set level, press record, make music. EASY!! That's all I want. This is ridiculous. With my wacky old 001 I was up and running in no time. It was easy as pie, and the workflow was even easier than when I used a tape machine and a rack of effects. Heaven on earth I tell ya.

Hell, I am almost considering selling this stuff and putting my old system back in the studio because at least I could just do something without having to do a little dance with all the other stuff and hope it works.

I know, I know... I gotta buy the good stuff to get to plug and play nirvana. You can't let us poor folks have all the goodies can you? Well I think you can. All it is doing is pissing off a long time customer. DO IT. PLEASE.

I said please. I have been a good boy.

Sincerely,

Long time loyal customer,

Graveleye

Don't blame Avid. I work with a DIGI003 all the time and never have to think twice about it

But CueMix isn't Avid - shouldn't you be complaining to them??

If I was Avid I'd make ignoring this a priority.

Sigh.

you've got a point... try the MOtu forum instead op
motu is the one forcing you to run CueMix, avid has nothing to do with that..

Wrong place bro. Go to the motu forum and ask for a simple straight-forward driver.

Though one can't be sure, it looks like he's complaining about the Input Monitoring feature that comes standard in other DAWs, but missing in regular ProTools 10. He mentions CUE Mix & his Motu interface, but didnot explain the problem with PT10.

It's a valid concern as I also want to avoid Input Monitoring workarounds without paying $1,999 for the CPTK.

LLM is an Avid feature they integrate with their hardware, hence why 001 and 003 users would have experienced this feature.

Motu make good good drivers, drop buffers to 64 samples and problem solved. LLM is ok but you lose the ability to use plugins and sends so it has it's limitations.

Actually everything below 10ms latency is going to be just fine. Very few artists notice 10ms latency. Most early digital pianos had larger latency and it didn't screw the vibe. So...

If 10ms is fine, then 256 buffer @48k is fine, just as 512 buffer @96k is equally fine.

If the gear can do 128 buffer or even 64 buffer you just forget about it and get some work done.
