Default Hardware buffer settings.

I just went back to 11R as primary interface. It has been S/PDIF'd into my 002R since I bought it.

But when I first got it several years ago and tried it on it's own......I noticed it had a 2056 samples hardware buffer setting. Well I remember it as 2056 even though it is not a 2X multiplication of 1024. The settings were 32, 64, 128, 512, 1024 and 2056.

Now that I am back to using it as my primary interface for the first time since I tried it that way years ago.........that setting/option is gone!

The highest is 1024. I have tried trashing prefs etc and made sure the I/O is set to Eleven Rack and I selected Default for Input, Output, Bus...etc etc

So did I imagine it before? What's the deal? I even asked about that early one when I first got it because all my FW interfaces only went up to 1024. I asked why 11R went up to 2056. Someone suggested it may be because the 11R is a USB device.

So if it went away.....when was that and why?

just curious.....why would you need it to run so slow? at 256, i've never had a problem running tons of tracks and effects without any issues. once you get out there to 1024 or more, there is a lag time from the time you press play.

Are you sure it was 2056 and not 2048? Im using PT9 on Windows and I can go from 128 to 2048.

You probably have a session at 44.1k or 48k. Launch a new session at 88.2 or 96k and you should have 2048 available.

1024 and higher are not for recording (usually) but for mixing. When you have a large session with lots of virtual instruments that are resource heavy along with eq's and compressor on several channels it can be necessary to bump up the buffer to 1024 or 2048 and add in running sessions at 88.2 or 96k as I do and 2048 becomes necessary in the mixing stage.

Ah yes....that must be it....I am running at 24/48. I actually was at 96 when I was using the 002R as primary, because the film editor asked for 96 if possible. But I seemed to hit "running out of CPU" errors so I went back to 48, which he said was okay also.

Yes.....2048 of course. I thought so, hence my X2 comment but for some reason I had 2056 in my head. I actually Googled it to check and someone else had said 2056 so I went with it......even though it made no sense with all the others being doubled.

Thanks. I'll try change the session settings.

I think there should be a 256 between the 128 and the 512, that's probably where the confusion came from. But yet, I can go up to 2048 over here.
