PT 12 glitchy graphics in Yosemite just like PT11... at least for me.
I am starting a new thread on this issue because it is still happening in PT 12. During playback the playback head and clock get stuck for a second then play then get stuck again. I just installed the non HD version to test it out paying for one month $30.00, I did not want to spend $600 to run this test just to see if the glitchy graphics issue is still there or not.
I know the issue does not happen to everyone and for me it only happens on my mac pro, it does not happen on my MacBook Pro when I booted off the same system drive. I also tried installing 10.10.3 beta to see if that would get rid of the issue with PT HD 11.3.1 but still no luck, glitchies are still there. I would love to here from anyone who has installed 12 with Yosemite and do not have the issue and what hardware they have. As discovered before the fix for the issue is to run Quatrz Debug in the background and disable Beam Sync. It could be an issue with certain video cards. So if you are saying you have or don't have the issue please list your mac and your video card. As far as I know this is mainly an issue only with Yosemite although one person I saw said they had it also in Mavericks. PT 11 in Mt Lion does not have the issue on my system it only happens in Yosemite with 11 and now 12. Here are the original threads about this issue. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p...48#post2247148 and http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=364286 I know my mac pro is pimped out but other people are having the same issue with stock computers. Re: PT 12 glitchy graphics in Yosemite just like PT11... at least for me.
I'm gonna bet dollars to donuts it's an AMD video driver bug. I'm running a hack with Nvidia GTX 760 graphics and PT 12 is smooth as silk in Yosemite 10.10.2. No glitching at all! The only thing I've gotten so far was one DAE Error "9073 Can't get audio from drive fast enough" and I suppose it was due to streaming the session from an external firewire drive hanging on an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter which uses an LSI chipset. I only got one though in a couple of hours playing with it. All in all I'm happy with 12, at least under OSX.

Re: PT 12 glitchy graphics in Yosemite just like PT11... at least for me.
I saw a person here who had the issue Nvidia GT 120 and he had the same issue. I have two older graphics cards so I may drop in my GT 120 and see if its still there. But the reality is it needs to be fixed by Avid or Apple even after the PT 12 and so far 10.10.3 beta have not fixed the issue.

We upgraded to ATi 5780 and everything is running smooth since then. dump the GT120 card, my 2 cents. Regards,

Exactly. Throw out the GT120 and replace it with an ATI. If you are using an Avid PCIe card make sure you get the ATI model that has 1 power input, or else get the power splitter cable as some of them require 2 power leads.

Re: PT 12 glitchy graphics in Yosemite just like PT11... at least for me.
Thanks Marco and Steve, but your chiming in without reading first, or looking at the other threads about this issue. I am not using the GT120 I have a Gigabyte R9 280X with mac efi and it works fine with MT Lion and PT11 and 10. The issue lies with Yosemite and PT11 and now 12.
I had a long session with tech support yesterday and we spent about half an hour trying to see if we could fix the issue but we couldn't. He said it is not a an issue he has heard before and he checked with a few other techs at Avid and they had not heard of it either but I don't think there's that many Yosemite Pro Tools users out there. I told him there are several folks on the forums that have the same issue but with different setups the consistent thing is it only happens in Yosemite. I had it in 10.10.2 and 10.10.3 beta. So the only fix for me is to run Quartz debug in the background. It only happens with the edit window open, if I close the edit window and leave the mix window open things are smooth. My guess is it's the new AMD graphics drivers for Yosemite as SugarNutz mentioned. If someone has the same issue with a hi end Nvidia card please report it here. I'm still experiencing it with PT12, also have to use the Quartz DeBug wih beam sync disabled.

5770 works fine with HDX. GT120s cannot cope at all. Be careful with 5870s with HDX, lack of power as the video card takes 2 x power feeds, AOK for HD Native PCIe cards though.

Re: PT 12 glitchy graphics in Yosemite just like PT11... at least for me.
For users of GT120 I recommend using nVidia's original driver from their site which is regularly updated. Apple's drivers are no-go. Since I've been started using them months ago, all my graphic related issues vanished.
