Switching between 4 protools (keyboard and monitors)
So we are setting up a four pro tools system with a 32 fader d control. We are looking into how we will switch between each system for the mouse and monitor control. Obviously the D control works fine with Satellite link so switching between the four machines there is working fine. We will have four Monitors; one for each machine. We are looking into Synergy which seems like a good option and seems to work but I'm wondering what anyone here is doing to switch on their system. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks Garret

Try this:

Synergy is really cool in that it turns your multiple computers into what feels like ONE computer with multiple monitors. But, you still need a monitor for each computer. If you are ok with having 4 monitors above/beside your Dcontrol then go for it. I've used the IO gear KVMs for a while in several different rooms. They work pretty well and they have single monitor and dual monitor versions.

That is why you use one of these splitters on each video out:

I have used Teleport and it's very efficient.

Re: Switching between 4 protools (keyboard and monitors)
Synergy has been amazing for me in a 3 computer - 3 screen setup. The only drawback that I find is that some PT shortcuts work only to the computer that acts as the server (has the keyboard and mouse connected to it). But it is mostly the case for the shortcuts that have the cmd key in their combo. And that is in a three mac setup. I am not sure how would it be with PCs.
And by the way, without hijacking this post, if anyone has experienced the same problem and has a solution to it i'd be happy to know! |
