Default Codecs & Catalina (what are you using?)

Couple people are in a Discord having discussions about problems with DNx36 or 100, and the audio not coming in with the reference video.

Anyone using anything in particular?
Wrapping in .mov?
Using something compressed like 264?

Curious to what is working for people.

DNxHD36 but as MXF. I use shutter encoder to convert to this format. Its been pretty stable.

Split the ref audio. MXF audio isn't supported yet, and now QuickTime support has gone so Pro Tools can't import the audio ref tracks either. Definitely avoid H.264!

Same here. DNxHD36 1080P/24 in MXF container. Other than the audio aspect it just works the same but I have requested DME wav-stems from the cutting room for various reasons for years so the embedded audio was never really of great help during production anyway.
Also AVID MC can't export QT directly anymore either in the current versions so QT will definitely be "game over" sooner than later.

Premiere Pro, Resolve and plenty of others manage to implement their own QT export options so Avid should be more than capable of it!

There have been times that I've received an MXF without split ref audio, and was unable to import the audio into Pro Tools. So I pulled out my blowtorch, Adobe Media Encoder, and was able to extract audio that way.
