Why not upgrade to Windows 7? Its a better OS all around. Once I ran Pro Tools on Windows 7 64 bit, I am never going back to XP If you really don't want to use Win7, then stay with PT8. Like any other update, I always have a backup plan. Mine is to clone my system drive, swap the original drive out for the clone and update the clone. That way, I can always revert to the last known working setup if I have troubles(this has save my butt several times)

Ive tested pt9 on xp and there is def a performance issue on xp compared to 7. Pt9 works on xp, and ill use it for recording simple things, but i wouldnt recommemd using it to mix down 64 track session.

And PT9 runs far better for me with 6-12 Gigs of RAM than with only 4.

Wink Re: windows 7 not

Thanks guy's I'm just getting tired of all the windows upgrades. Thinking about a Mac but hearing bad things about windows working as a dual boot on a Mac.I'm getting tired of learning new programs etc. another OS to learn if I get a Mac.I just want to write and produce music in my studio. Most of what I use needs windows OS.I use firewire hock ups for my Glyph hard drives.I hear windows is having problems with that(firewire). I use Pro Tools 8,Vegas 10,Sound Forge,Acid Pro 7,Reason / record and Cakewalk.Any input I will gladly take.

Exactly. I held out on W7 as long as I could because I'm cautious when it comes to new software but I'm glad I made the switch, W7 is awesome.

To the OP it sounds like you need to do some more homework or someones been filling you with disinformation.
