Default G4 Not powering up fix

I'm sure everyone else knows this, but courtesy of Richard L at Abbey Road, just wanted to pass on this fix. If you happen to come in for a 7AM dub start with a room full of Director, Editor, 8 man crew etc and your previously completely reliable G4/PT HD Accel rig won't start up at all - don't panic. The symptom is that the power button glows under your finger, but dims as soon as you take your finger off, and doesn't begin the start up cycle. The fix, remove the PRAM battery but for at least 15 minutes, not less. Be very patient, and ignore the mutterings of "never rated him anyway, music editors are all the same, why didn't we book person X etc". Then start up, reset the date & time and you'll be fine.

And breathe.

Cheers

Michael

...Or press & hold the "PMU Reset" switch for about 10 secs.

Ah, fair enough. That didn't seem to work for me, but then I probably didn't hold that down long enough either.

Cheers

But only push it once otherwise you might kill your Mac.

i talked to apple about this recently and the man said that the power has to drain from the power supply completely. if i left it alone for 10 minutes, then the powere drains from the supply and i can restart. sometimes, i disconnect the power to the cpu and wait.
