Default Is my liquid channel broke?

Been tracking vocals today and it seems very noisy with my sm7b lots of white noise and the signal is only coming in at 8 on the liquid channel mic pre level meter. I'm just wondering if it's on the way out. I know the sm7b needs lots of gain. Thanks in advance

Have you checked the mic cable? Corrosion on the plugs or jacks in your patch bay? If using an external mixer, try a different channel. If I haven't used a particular channel's fader for a while, sometimes the signal is "scratchy" until I move the fader up and down a few times.

I've checked the mic lead and the focusrite connects straight to my digi 192

I'm sure you have already tried another mic to rule out the SM7B being the issue. Make sure the phantom power on your mic pre didn't get turned on by mistake, although that shouldn't cause the white noise and low input signal.

Yeah I've tried another mike but obviously I don't have to turn the gain up as much for my other mics Thinking maybe I should get it serviced ??

Did the mic get dropped or take a very hard knock somehow?

If you have tried a different mic, and did not hear the white noise, then as Jack suggested, it could be the SM7B got damaged. Try a different mic with the gain set at the same level you would normally have for the SM7B (even though that level might be too high for the other mic) in a quiet room and listen for the white noise.

Not sure if the "B" version is the same as my older non-lettered SM-7, but I would exercise the switches on the end(assuming there are any). Switches that rarely get worked will often oxidize and go intermittent
