Apparently the new version does allow you to host VST's, and successfully acts as a wrapper.

Holy Crapoly Carl! I stand corrected. I have Magma and am running to download the update. Do you know if it compensates for delay on the parallel processing paths?

This is also not the only plugin that allows you to host a "VST plugin within another format plugin", which essentially elminates the need for a wrapper. Vienna Ensemble Pro and Plogue Bidule also allow you to shoehorn VSTs into Pro Tools as well. I don't think there's an AAX version of Bidule yet, but there definitely is one for VEP.

Yeah, but as I understand them, VE Pro and Bidule are "Rewire" type environments that run outside of Pro Tools whereas Magma is not. Is this not so?

Carl,
I clicked on the link which took me to Nomad Factory, but I don't see anything about a wrapper there. What am I missing?

Thanks

Read the details re Magma. Can load VST plugins now. I haven't checked yet to see if it can do VST instruments too.

Bidule in rewire mode only sends audio one way, from bidule in to pro tools. I could have sworn that you could open an RTAS instance of Bidule and then load a VST or AU plugin in that, but apparently not.... they're missing from the menu if you open it as a plugin.

VE pro, while technically a separate app, does allow bidirectional audio since version 5. I don't think it technically uses the propellorhead rewire protocol, but it's a similar situation. I haven't used that feature enough to know how well it works, but it's definitely possible.

Default New VST>AAX Wrapper coming

So I installed Magma 1.5 and opened it in PT. the first thing I had to do was manually scan the VST plugins folder. This took a few minutes, and Magma rejected over 30 of them. It turns out that the rejects were instruments. Magma will not load instruments, but it does FX.
