Default IO Error -- Computer will no longer boot up to WinXP

Hi, I am hoping someone can help or shed some light on a serious problem I am having. I have WinXp with Digi002. Here's the story:

I tried reinstalling ProTools 6.4, which was currently installed, but somehow, the exe file had gone missing. It required earlier versions, since my 6.4 was an upgrade, so I went back to my original installation disk for 5.3.2. An error occurred and a dialog box with what I remember as an "IO Module" error appeared. I should have written down that error, but didn't realise the grief it would cause.

Now my PC won't boot up to WinXP, even after trying a recovery console. It goes through a boot up procedure, which ends with a blank black screen. SafeMode is not available, even though the SafeMode text appears in the corners of the black screen.

Is there a fix for this? I will keep searching for help in the meantime... Please, help if you can...

Thanks
Geoff
