Need help on tempo!
Here's my issue:
1. I'm recording an acoustic guitar song and I want to set up the acoustic track to a click track so the song starts in time. 2. While guitar part is playing how do I find the tempo of the song? 3. How do I set up the click track to match the tempo of the song? 4. What is the best click sample to use? Im using Protools 8. I appreciate everyones input. |

Re: Need help on tempo!
The quickest and easiest way is to turn off the conductor (the farthest right button under the tempo control) and then click in the space where you edit the tempo. Then you can tap "T" on the keyboard along to the song and it will sync up. That's if you are just starting recording. If the song is already recorded you have to use Beat Detective or just keep moving the tempo until it lines up (which I find is quickest on some songs)

Re: Need help on tempo!
The other way is to use the Identify Beat function.
For that you have to work on the waveform...identifying each Bar at least. Once you have the general tempo, round it and use Elastic Audio to Conform your guitar track with the least artifact.

Russ has several useful videos on this subject at the AIR Users Blog.

Re: Need help on tempo!
The click track always matches the session tempo. It's automatic. (Except in the case of certain irritating but thankfully rare bugs.)

Re: Need help on tempo!
...or try the old fashioned way. Instantiate a click track on an aux track.
If the guitar is already recorded, guess at the tempo and set the session tempo at that rate. Playback. Adjust session tempo according to actual beat. Playback, adjust. If the guitar is not already recorded, set the sesion tempo at a guess. Begin playback of the session and then begin playing the song. Adjust tempo of the session to taste.
