Re: Windows 7(Something to think about?)
The 64bit compatible version of PT is likely to be just that, "compatible". I doubt we'll see a new engine for a while yet. There may be some slight advantages but I don't think our socks are in danger of flying across the room. This of course is just one guy’s opinion.

Re: Windows 7(Something to think about?)
"I was considering installing the 32 bit version of Windows 7 to give that a test. What are the main advantages with using a 64 bit system with Pro Tools? I only have 4 gigs of RAM which is the max a 32 bit OS can use (correct?)."
32bit OS only sees about 3.25 gigs of RAM "I'm faced with the decision of either leaving the 64 bit version of Windows 7 on my system and waiting until everything is compatible (assuming that a 64 bit system will have major advantages over a 32 bit system once everything is compatible) or erasing Win7 and reinstalling the 32 bit version in hopes that it will run ok so I can start using it ASAP." from what i understand and read up on running PT on a 64bit OS wont have many advantages due to the fact that its a 32bit app and wont utilize any more RAM than a 32bit OS uses. DIGI needs to make a 64bit version of PT in order to take advantage of more RAM and who knows when that will be. i have win7 build 7100 and have been using it with my 002r for a few months already with no problems. win7 will have both 32bit and 64bit versions on the disc. if youd like to start using win7 id say install the 32bit version, or just wait a month for the official release of win7 and use 32bit.

Re: Windows 7(Something to think about?)
For some reason, i cant seem to get Pro Tools M-Powered to launch anymore without it hanging on Xpand.dpm (RTM 7600 Final x64)
Tried it with and without IE8, with 8.01 or CS3, and with UAC turned off, and in compatability mode XP/Vista but to no avail. Also, tried updating Windows vs no updating upon install. Is there anything else i can try? I used to have it working on 7100 RC1 x64, but this seems harder to get to work! |

Re: Windows 7(Something to think about?)
Hey guys
Do you think my issues point to the M-Audio Profire driver compatibility with Windows 7 and it's simply a matter of waiting until they release one that works? If it was my firewire cable or chipset etc... wouldn't it produce the same issues running under OS X? I'm just really anxious to try things that might solve these issues but I'm also wondering if it's simply a matter of 'there's nothing I can do at the moment but wait.' |

Re: Windows 7(Something to think about?)
i know why pro tools mpowerd 7.4 dont work on windows 7. on vista it works untill u install service pack 1 then it stops workin. i uninstralled service pack 1 and it started working again. im sure the service pack 1 files from vista is already on windows 7 and that is what the problem is. i dont understand why when they make updates and new systems they just dont make it so all your stuff works like drivers software ect.
