First Time Installation Crash Pro Tools SE 8.0.3

My system:
Macbook OS 10.6.6
Intel 1.83 GHz Core 2
1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Install goes fine until restart, then freezes. I then have to force a shutdown. The icon for Pro Tools never appears, instead it shows a generic mac application icon. If I click on it the following error appears:

"You can't open the application (Null) because it may be damaged or incomplete"

Then the system crashes and I can no longer access any program. For example finder gives:

"Finder can't be opened - 10810"

And then I have to force another shutdown. I've done a total of four times with three full uninstalls. Any ideas before I pack it all up and return it to the place of purchase?

Do you have FileVault turned on in System Preferences > Security? This can cause some installation issues for Pro Tools SE. If this does not resolve your issue, can you please post your complete computer profile from Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info.
