Default FRUSTRATION

I just recently bought a new computer from dell, a 530s that ships only with Vista. I currently have Vista Home Premium running on this computer. I also recently purchased an mbox 2 mini with the factory bundle. I've tried to install Pro Tools LE 7.3 on my computer but it tells me that XP with SP2 is required. I have been searching day and night for three nights to find a solution for my very emotionally frustrating dilemma, but the only results I am getting is that I must purchase XP for an additional 200 dollars and even then it may not work due to drivers in Vista that do not allow XP to run. This is a last resort. I am pleading, I am begging for any other alternative or ANY information whatsoever as to when PTLE 7.3 could be compatible with Vista HP. I only want to record music that is trapped in my head and I am tired of waiting. I thought I was done waiting when I saved up the money to purchase said items, but these compatibilty issues have rendered me useless. I would appreciate any help at all, thank you all very much for your time.

As you have discovered, 7.3 needs XP with SP2. PT 7.3 and lower will not work in Vista and never will. You'll need PT 7.4.

OK... so 7.3 will never be compatible with Vista... my next question - how am i supposed to get the 7.4 upgrade if I can't install 7.3 on my computer? I would really rather not buy a whole new copy of 7.4, having just bought 7.3.

Yeah, why not just use 7.4? If you got your mbox/7.3 after Oct 1, it's a free upgrade.

You get the upgrade by registering your purchased stuff with Digidesign. They should send an authorization for 7.4 so you can order an install disk or download the program which, I think, is the complete installer. You could also do what I did with my laptop. I pulled the Vista loaded system drive and installed a new drive and loaded XP with SP2. It took 2 days to get all the drives I needed but once I was done, it runs protools fine.
