Really? When? Why? What's the reason? And anyway why can't this be compensated for?

That's what I have tried to ask Avid, so far no answer. This isn't something that (IMO) marketing would want to keep for HDX users only, so there must be some technical explanation why it requires hardware. Or perhaps project management decided that the team is out of time for a good implementation so deliver half-baked instead. Don't know, would tell you if I did.

Honestly, to have the HDX hardware calculating that delay comp would be a waste of the the precious few resources those cards have for something that a general purpose CPU, which is already doing the rest of the calculations for delay comp, seems absurd on its face. Why would ANY delay comp code run on the card itself? Also, most every other major DAW can handle this without issue. Seems like marketing nonsense to my ears.

With DSP-based systems, the mixer runs on the DSP. This may be one of the reasons behind the decision. However, as native systems are here and now and are perfectly capable of running the mixer on CPU, then why on earth cannot the sidechain be delay compensated along with everything else? This beats me.

But there is a point in doing delay comp on DSP if you have it.

Just discovered a leftover sidechain fed into a ProQ2 for eq matching was offsetting my dialogue track :/ The sidechain wasn't even active, no signal passing in or thru, yet offsetting by 1/2 frame. Luckily I caught with a 2pop before printing anything.

I can't say I'm surprised by this. I've never fully restored my trust in delay compensation since the whole Blastgate thing. If I'm running any plug-ins with substantial delay I always try to commit (or at least freeze) asap to avoid any potential weirdness happening.

This is, yet again, absolutely unacceptable.
What good is a side-chain if you cannot trust it to be in time?
Why, it's no good at all.

It's such a bummer.
I just tried to make the side chain function of the Fabfilter Pro-L2 work on my pricey PT HD Native system and no luck.

I got it to work on Reaper, no problem (except for that horrible routing system).

Come on Avid! Get that delay compensation in order.
i still have to turn of ADC when I record because of that ridiculous 4k sample delay you introduced in PT11 when you have an active send that's not being received by anything. It's been FIVE years!

Come on Avid, this is 2018 here... It's even in your PT version number now, use that as a reminder please. Every other DAW I'm trying makes me want to cry because I like PT so much better, but I'm wasting an utterly unacceptable amount of time dealing with your shoddy functionality or lack thereof ever since PT11.
It's a bloody tragedy. You've been taking the wind right out of my sails since PT11.
Great new features, but feeble implementation.
Now 2018.1 seems to be a step in the right direction (a very small one for me).
Let this cheer you on and not get you down.
We're rooting for you guys, nobody WANTS to be forced to learn a new DAW.
We all WANT you to succeed.

Sort this stuff out BEFORE adding new functionality, please.
It's about quality of functions, not quantity.
Add quantity AFTER you've safeguarded quality.

Please..

2019 now.

Not in these forums often so I have no idea if Avid is in here reading any of it but...
Avid if you're reading this....

This is still a every day headache for a lot of people.

Personally i'm spending way to much time actively trying to work around this. Been doing that for year snow.

So i'm begging you to please look into this.

Cheers!
