Default Mac Mini and M-Audio 1814?

Anybody get this combination to work? I tried installing driver version 1.4.4 but the M-Audio Firewire Control Panel tells me there isn't any interface connected. Re-installed the driver, turned the mac off, reconnected the 1814, restarted only to get the same result. Tried driver version 1.4.3 and 1.4.1 with no luck. Turned the unit off from the switch and then back on, again nothing. The Audio/MIDI setup doesn't see it, Logic 7 doesn't see it either. I have an MBox on this same computer, is it a possible conflict?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that this is the second unit with the identical problem. Returned the first one, but I wouldn't think that its two defective units in a row. "About this Mac" shows the M-Audio bootloader on the firewire bus, although I'm not sure if this is the hardware unit or just the driver showing up.

Mac Mini 1.42 MHZ
512 MB RAM
OSX 10.3.8

I had to have a PC user install the latest driver, hook up my 1814 and get it to work , and then bring it back home. For some reason my Mac was not updating the firmware of the unit. I did this at the suggestion of the M-Audio tech I spoke to for over 2 hours when I was having the same problems. I just did it this morning, and everything is now running flawlessly.

Thanks! I connected it to my PC laptop and got it working right away. Took it back to the Mac and now it seems to work with that too. Hmmm... Am I to believe that the Mac driver is so lame that you NEED a PC to get it to work? So much for the computer for the rest of us.

Anybody else have this problem? Connecting it to a PC first seemed to work for two of us at any rate.

Happened to me as well. I feel bad for someone without a PC.

I was just happy that I had a friend that was willing to help me out. Otherwise I had no choice but to return the unit.

I actually did return my first unit. You'd think that M-Audio/Avid is going to get pretty sick of these returns, if this is the norm. Or at least the retail outlets are going to get sick of processing them. Luckily I'm half PC anyway.

They should release an amendment to the install instructions:

1. Buy a PC

2. Install driver on PC and start up 1814 one time only

3. Turn off PC, Connect to Mac and enjoy

4. Sell PC

I've been thinking about augmenting my HD/Accel rig with an laptop/1814 for location stuff[the 002R seems a bit bulky for me]
the 1814 looked like a perfect solution...
suddenly,it looks like a VERY bad choice!!
It pisses me off to no end when 2 companies collaborate on a product and release products that don't work out of the box, only to throw the problem to the end user..
What a joke!
