Default Digi-004?

Hey guys,
I have a quick question. Basically is there anything in the works for a newer upgrade from the Digi-003? Like a 004? Or something to bridge the gap and improve on equipment?
I own an 002 factory and am thinking of upgrading but dont want to buy a 1-2 year old platform if they are coming out with somehting new soon...

It probably won't be called "004" since 4 signifies "death" in Chinese superstition. The "168" would be the right model number for the Asian market.

They are purportedly working on something though. For now, the M-Audio Profire 2626 is easily the best native pro tools interface, hampered as it is by digi's refusing to let it use all 26i/o with pro tools and refusing to enable the Complete Extortion Toolkit for Pro Tools dis-M-powered. It's the only thing I can use for tracking ensembles though due to its low latency cue mixer.

If you want the control surface the 003 is clearly superior to the 002 but not dramatically. The C|24 is ghastly overpriced. The Command 8 is no better than your 002 console. They won't let you use an Icon with native. Everything 3rd party is crippled to the old HUI protocol illegally.

That is by far the funniest thing I've ever read on these boards.

I'd love to hear your comments on a PFLB.

The exciting thing about the PFLB is if you can get your hands on a copy of Pro Tools re-M-powered 7.3cs1. In this release the cripple code limiting the i/o count mysteriously vanished, and you can use the full 32 or 36 or whatever it is i/o of the PFLB in and out of Pro Tools directly. The cripple code was put back in for 7.4 of course.

It's not so much of a win since if you just need that much i/o to track or mix analog you can work in Logic or even Garageband instead. The PFLB does not have the major improvements in the 2626: no DSP low latency cue mixer (they got firewire as fast as Pro Tools HD, believe it or not), no new OS drivers, and I don't think the PFLB has the JetPLL jitter elimination either. The converters on the 2626 may be the best in the entire ^V|>/Digi family at this point. For cheap.

Generally stuff like taking out the cripple code for a cs release is done secretly as an "easter egg" by a programmer who considers himself too valuable to be fired for it. The funniest thing I've read on this board was DigiTechSuppt writing that 7.3cs1's enabling twice as much i/o as normal was "a bug."

Never got to use any i/o with the one I had, it was an absolute piece of scrap. The quality, the quality... Never understood how they could let a design flaw like the power supply problem make it through the QC checks, and then not bother to put any warning in the packaging or manuals. Who would intentionally design something that self destructs when you plug in the included power supply and the included 6 pin FW cable at the same time?

Actually it is Chinese (and maybe Japanese too). The way the number four is pronounced is very similar to the way the word "death" is pronounced in Chinese, hence the correlation between the two words and subsequent superstitions. This is very evident in Cantonese and somewhat in Mandarin. Many Japanese words are descended or derived from Chinese words, therefore the similarities. Hey, we get a little asian history lesson on the DUC.

Digi 004. Hmmm...

What I got though is the 003 Rack Factory+ and a Mackie Control Universal. Works fine with me. I can use the MCU with PT8 (via HUI) and with my other apps like Sonar7.

As of now, the 003 Rack Factory+ is the newest from Digidesign (for PTLE). Digi 004 (or whatever they wanna call it) maybe will be out in 2 years plus IMO.

Would the converters in the Profire 610 M-Audio device be on the same scale as the 2626? -thx
