Default Please read and give some feedback on this report

I am having some problems with the buffer wanting to stop. I'm running PT8 with the new update. I have done a sandra report and it is below this post here.

Please tell me if there is anything special I could do to the computer or if I need a new one.

I have done all the xp tweaks as far as turning off visual effects and what not..

Thank you here is the sandra report now.

What exactly are you having problems with? Buffer issues as in its asking you to set the buffer size lower or higher?

It stops at random times and ask me to set my buffer higher. But the higher I got the more delay I have in vocals if that makes sense.

You need a secondary hard drive for Pro Tools sessions...
You'll also need to disable your wireless LAN while using PT.

I'm sorry I didn't add that in there... I do have one just for pro tools sessions that I use. It's a 7200rpm usb drive. I have the acer extensa 4420 laptop with the mbox mini 2.

I have 2 gb's of ram should I go up? I was just looking and they said I can go to 4 gb's but something about windows would only see 3.25 so they recommend a 2gb + 1gb = 3gb configuration.

Do you guys think this would help going up 1 gb on the ram?

USB drives are not the answer.

From the General Troubleshooting thread:
Quote:
IMPORTANT! You MUST use a secondary hard drive (not your main OS drive) for recording and playback of audio in Pro Tools. Recording or playback from the OS drive is known to be problematic and the cause of many different error types. If you are using your system drive and encountering errors, the first thing you should do is get a compatible drive. USB drives are not supported and are known to be problematic, so please do not use them with Pro Tools. If you're recording or playing back from a USB drive and are getting errors in Pro Tools, please switch to using a compatible external firewire drive or internal SATA/ATA/IDE drive and disconnect the USB drive.

Pro Tools supports recording and playback to a secondary drive that meets the following requirements:

7200 rpm or faster
9ms seek time or faster

Firewire drives must have the Oxford 911 (FW400 port), Oxford 912 (FW400 & FW800 ports) or Oxford 924 (FW800 ports) Bridge chip. USB drives are not supported and are known to be problematic.

I'll give that a try then. I have a firewire port on here and i'll try out a firewire drive because I have one but it's full but i'll try it out and see if I still get the buffer errors.

Thanks guys

Your firewire chipset may not be comaptible. From the above quote from JMS40:

"Firewire drives must have the Oxford 911 (FW400 port), Oxford 912 (FW400 & FW800 ports) or Oxford 924 (FW800 ports) Bridge chip."

Cheers,

Here's a great low-cost alternative. The Bytec ME720 external firewire case HAS the Oxford 911 chipset, and I just bought my second one from www.bteccstore.com for $35.00 to my door. Stick in any 7200 rpm IDE drive and go to work.
