Upgrading to PT12
I am currently on 10.8.5 OS X and PT10.
I want to upgrade to El Capitan and PT12. I own Komplete 7, Maschine, and a Waves bundle. So, I will have to upgrade to Komplete 10, Maschine 2.0, and get the AAX versions of Waves, am I right? Will NI provide the AAX versions of K10 and Maschine as well? I dont know anything about the new PT but I guess it requires AAX versions of plugins now? Will my set up run fine once I've done all this? I have 2011 Macbook Pro w/ 8 gigs of RAM. |

K10 includes AAX versions. I do not know if the same is true for Maschine. Quote:

If you want to prove you need more RAM, check the memory pressure graph in Activity Monitor. If at any point you see the color red in the memory pressure graph, then you could use more physical memory.

Re: Upgrading to PT12
More RAM can never hurt, but I also wanted to make a suggestion. Instead of updating the system drive you have(which will make going back nearly impossible), I would get another hard drive and load El Capitan, and everything else as a fresh clean build, and the old hard drive will still be intact and sitting on a shelf in case you find a reason to WISH you could go back(even if its to retrieve something from last year that you thought was done and gone).

Re: Upgrading to PT12
I have a MacBook pro 2011 in order for protools 10, 11, or 12 to run fine you will need to upgrade your ram and/or have 16 or 32 gig memory card installed. I already went thru that process recently.

Re: Upgrading to PT12
I just looked it up & the only one you can get is 16 gig. So go with that and you will be fine.

MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 Can you recommend a hard drive for me to buy? There's so many models my brain is fried from reading about all the specs. From what I've gathered though; I should get a 7200rpm HDD for better performance and I need at least 750gb but might as well get 1tb. Thanks in advance Oh and I've already ordered the 16gb RAM, it's on its way :) |
