Default imac 2nd hardrives...

im about to go mac (im posting all sorts of mac ?s)the new intel duo core imac.... i see that the imac i want has an option for a second hard drive. either a 250 or 500 serial ata 7200 drive. will this type of drive be good for audio? actually i might like to use this drive for samples and get an external fw drive for audio.thanx for any help.oh also, it only has fw 400, no 800 ports. will this make a big difference? thanx again....
