Hmm, This is interesting!

Digi002 being a firewire device. Can anyone else confirm this?

Could it be that Digi have done something in 7.4 that restores the firewire connections under Leopard? Maybe as a step towards full qualification for Leopard. We all understand, of course, that Digi does not qualify PT for use in Leopard yet.

Best

Hello Hendrix_forever, what about your plugins? I'm using nearly the same system and my Leopard DVD smiles at me every day. And I'm planning the upgrade to 7.4., so this could be an interesting thread...

I seem to have PT working in Leopard with my firewire Digi002r now!

Here's how:

I upgraded to PT 7.4
I loaded PT onto my laptop which has Leopard on it. There was a message about DigiKext not installing but it doesn't seem to have affected the usage as far as I can tell.
I loaded a song from my main Audio drive onto a separate firewire drive I use with the laptop.
I used an SIIG Firewire 2-Port ExpressCard, which I plugged the 002 into, giving me a separate firewire bus for the 002 as there is only one firewire port on a MacBook Pro. I don't know what will happen if you daisychain the drive off the back of the 002. Probably be OK.
Loaded the song about 16 audio tracks, some midi BFD drum tracks, which I haven't installed so it couldn't play. It couldn't find some of the plugins that reside on my UAD card as expected.
Pressed play and voila!

I had to increase the playback buffer to 1024 and raised the CPU usage to 90% to get it to play through without stopping.

I then loaded a 48k template and put 8 tracks into record. No problem recording and playing back. it looks like Digi have fixed the firewire issues with the 7.4 update although they appear to be keeping schtum about it so far. (Disclaimer) PT is still not qualified for use on a Leopard system and probably won't be for a while so your mileage may vary but hey, I got it working.

Now the big question is, shall I put Leopard on my main PT system? Hmm!

Pro tools 7.4 and Leopard also works for me here on my iMac 24 with 003R.
I will test it on my Mac Book and G4 dual 1.42ghz later.
Core Audio also works with all my other apps including Logic Studio.
Also, mirroring works in CoreAudio now for the 003.
There is also a firmware update on the PT 7.4 install for the 003.

hi all,

I've been following the threads for Pro Tools LE on Leopard. I had tried to install this last week when i upgraded to Leopard, and i couldn't get it to work. Now i've been reading on the other thread that some folks have managed to get it to work with Leopard. This is interesting that there has been mention of some of the succesful to be using firewire devices. Has anyone successfully run Leopard with an Mbox USB device at all?
Because i had to Re-install Tiger after upgrading to Leopard Not much fun when work is needing done. Cheers

Further Adventures in Leopard Land

As well as having a Digi002r, I also own an Mbox mini, which is USB. I tested the PT7.4 installation on my leopardised MacBook Pro and it appears to run fine.

So I got all adventurous and decided to put Leopard onto my Dual 1.8 G5. This was a little more interesting.

I re-installed PT7.4 once Leopard was installed to make sure everything was in the right place having done an archive and install on the G5.
When I ran PT, it fell over at the point it tried to load DigiReWire.dpm. This file resides here:
Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>Digidesign>Plug Ins/
I dragged the DigiReWire.dpm to the desktop and tried again.
This time PT loaded but threw up an error regarding my UAD card. However, when I loaded a song, everything seemed to be working. Once again I needed to raise the buffer to 1024 but it played through fine.

So, my observations regarding PT7.4 running on Leopard so far are these:
PT7.4 seems to have fixed the firewire i/face not playing issue of 7.3 under Leopard.
DigiReWire.dpm seems to work fine on an Intel system but not on a PowerPC system. Note I haven't tested this on the MBP. It just loads OK.
I would say there is no way that PT is optimised for use on Leopard although it feels snappier. This is true generally of Leopard, I've found.

My advice is that if you make your living using PT, don't even think about it until Digi give the word. Stay with 10.4. For those of us who don't, then sure, go ahead an play but expect the best experience once Digi have qualified Leopard.

Best

John

Oh it's on!

Just installed 7.4 on my MBP 2.4 Running Leopard with new update 10.5.1 mbox mini
had to also increase buffer size.
Took a min to figure out all of the updaters I needed wish the digi site was a little clearer about installing
but thanks to the many helpful folks on this board I am up and running
to spend the week at home with new baby.

wouldn't dare try on my work computer (Dual 2.7 ppc).

Thanks guys!javascript:void(0)
