Re: how to expand to 16 inputs on a digi 001
Another common way to add 8 optical channels is to use an ADAT XT or LX.
Cheap, good (enough) sound, and you get an ADAT, too. Take care, Chris |

Re: how to expand to 16 inputs on a digi 001
If you go to my help section on my studio site, I have a diagram made up. It is for the DIGI 002, but you will get the idea and go from there. People tell me that it is very helpul...
Hope this helps, -Doc See site below

Re: how to expand to 16 inputs on a digi 001
Behringer model is ADA-8000.
Adding an adat will work too, but remember that those old ADAT's are 16 bit only. The Behringer (among other, better boxes) is 24 bit, and is actually packed with Alesis-chips. So ti could very well be that the Alesis AI-3 and the Behringer ADA-8000 are the same when it comes to ad/da conversion... The Behringer is so cheap (around $200) that it could be a cheaper to get the behringer new, instead of some old adat.

Re: how to expand to 16 inputs on a digi 001
Alesis AI3 $350 plus shipping...
Analog in on the AI3 "1/4" balanced... AI3 Optical out to the Digi 001 or 002 or 002R optical input... Optical out of the Digi to the optical in of the AI3... Make sure the Digi is set to be the master or you will get pops and clicks...

Re: how to expand to 16 inputs on a digi 001
As noted, any of the many available ADAT lightpipe units get you an additianl 8 i/o, add that to the 8 analog inputs, that makes 16. If you need them all to be mic preamps, you'll need 6 additional outboard mic pre's, or a console with direct outs on 6 channels.
