Default LE hardware>>other software

Can you use the Mbox, Digi 002, or Digi 002r with software other than PT?

Could it be used for Cubase? Ableton Live? Guitar Rig?

Just curious.

Yes. ASIO and Wavedrivers are included with the Pro Tools install.

I'm wondering if the reverse is true. I have PTLE7 and an Mbox. I want to use Pro Tools, but I don't want to go through the Mbox's mic pre, since I either have or have access to "better" mic pres.

Is it possible to just have the Mbox "hooked up" to my Windows XP computer, but use a different mic pre and soundcard, if anything to get 24 bit/96kHz? And if so, where can I find more information about how to do it?

Thanks. Y'all are awesome!

Nick

Nope.

You can use a different mic pre through the line ins, but you can't use a different soundcard; all audio has to pass through a digidesign interface. (and the mBox only goes to 48k, as I'm sure you already know)

There's always Maudio and MPowered, but then you're paying all over again for the software.

Thanks a lot, spkguitar. That's exactly the information I was looking for. So I can use Mbox's line in with an external mic pre? Anything else I need to know to make this work out for me? I appreciate the help.

Yep. You'll only be able to go up to 48k, but yep.
Best to use balanced TRS cables.

I can do this. I thought that I'd be running through Mbox's "mic pre" even if I used 1/4" TRS and the LINE setting. If this is not the case, I'll be a happy camper.
