Default Grid Mode - Command Click - Smart Tool

I am unable to use "[Command] [Click]" when I not using the Smart Tool.

Here's the situation: I am using the Selector Tool and I want to make an edit within a region while still in Grid Mode, but whenever I try to make the edit, the cursor snaps to the grid. So I try to using the Command button to click within the region, but then I get something talking about "Alternates Match Criteria." I don't want to use the Smart Tool though.

How can I use "[Command] [Click]" without using the Smart Tool? Is there a way?
