Default Constant -6101 errors

Hi guys,

I've been getting 6101 errors when recording a LOT. I've taken a variety of steps trying to fix it (with limited success).

Actions taken:
dumped digi databases repeatedly
updated Pace drivers
toggled H/W buffer ceaselessly
Pro Tools 8.0cs2 update
Airport turned off
Power settings toggled to max
Checked startup items
FileVault off

My setup:

Macbook Pro, 2.4 Ghz intel, 2GB Ram
Mbox Mini (connected to left-hand-side USB port)
Recording via firewire to a LaCie Rugged 500GB Hard Drive

Actually, one thing to add:

I think the Amplitube 1 plugin is out of date, so I tried removing that from the plugin folder last night, to little effect. Is simply removing the file from the folder enough?

Thanks

I see you have things like Amplitube and BFD in there - you should try reducing the number of processors in the Playback Engine by 1, which should resolve the errors.

The problem is that some plug-ins have code in them that cannot be run on a processor that's dedicated to RTAS, so by reducing the number of processors, you 'open up' one of them to run that particular code. You're still using the processor, just in a different way.

Digi,

Sorry--I forgot to mention that I had already switched to 1 processor in the playback engine. Any other ideas? I've been lurking and trying every fix I can find for a good while now.

Thanks!

I am also getting this error, but it's only when I setup a track with Eleven LE. It only take one instance of Eleven LE to start getting the constant errors.

I did some of the same attempts to improve performance that have been mentioned in this thread, plus I went through the entire list that can be found on Digidesigns website. I also set my number of processors to 1 and tried many variations of settings in the Playback Engine. No matter what, Eleven LE seems to tip the scale everytime. I should mention my session was not that large, it's roughly 12 tracks and a total of 5 plug-ins so far. I turned off 3 of those 5 and still had problems when Eleven LE was added.

I did some tests by replacing Eleven LE with Amplitube 2. I was able to replace one Eleven LE with 4 instances of Amplitube 2 and had absolutely no problem. So, then I created a new session with only one track with only one plug-in, Eleven LE. That worked fine. So, does that mean Eleven LE is a processing hog?

I upgraded to Music production Toolkit 2 and the main thing you get, compared to MPKT1, is Eleven LE. So, it's important to me to figure this out.

I hope you don't mind me adding to your thread, but just like you, I changed my processors to 1 and there was no improvement.

Thanks!

Setup:
Mac G5, Dual Processor, 1.8GHz, 2GB RAM, OSX10.5.6,
PT8.0cs2, Music Production Toolkit 2, 002

How long have you guys been running PT8 and how did you install everything? Was this working well and then suddenly not working or has it been this way since the beginning? Did you install the OS as a bought incremental update, from the DVD or from the Combo installer?

I'm not a person with answers unfortunately. I actually bailed on PT8 for PT7.4 because I couldn't get any work done. I had all the same problems you guys are mentioning. I'm G5 2.3 dual with 6GB's of Ram the thing ran so horribly in OSX 10.5.6 and PT 8 that I had to set everything back. I still really want to step up but I too am trying to figure this one out. I may do like others have mentioned, do a totally clean install from the combo installer and see if this does it. But if you guys already jumped through that hoop then my search continues.

I had 7.4 installed in october and installed PT8 around january, maybe. I haven't done a full clean install yet. That's looking like the next thing on my list unless someone has a really bright idea...

My OSX is the install that came with the laptop, which I bought in september, plus incremental updates via autoupdater

Digi - any additional ideas for solving this problem? The fix you proposed hasn't helped.
