Default Synths Samplers Soft Synths, Akai MPC4000

This may not be the forum for this, but since I post here regularly, I thought I'd shoot this by you all

I'm doing mostly Hip Hop/RnB, and I need to expand my sound sources. Right Now I have an Akai Mpc 2000xl, Roland 5080, JD990, and a EMU extreme lead.

I'm considering Kurzweil K2600, Akai MPC4000, Triton Rack, SE-1, and EMU proteus 2000.

Can I eliminate some of this with Giga sampler and soft synths? I have a demo of B4 and it kills most other B3 simulations I've heard, and I'm wondering if this is possible with wurly/ piano etc at this point.

Is there a 24 bit soft sampler/synth that reads kurzweil k2600/Akai sample format???

I don't know anything about the soft synt/sampler stuff (except I may need to buy a seperate computer )

Someone help

I would say two things:

GigaStudio and Reason 2.0

GigaStudio only runs on a PC.

You were going to buy a lot of separate boxes anyway, so go buy a $1000 PC with a Pentium III 1.2 Ghz processor or so, 512 Meg RAM. Make sure it has firewire, and get a Granite Digital firewire drive to house your sound libraries. Get an RME Hammerfall sound card that has ADAT sync/lightpipe I/O and your Sync I/O can drive your PC rig sample accurate.

Giga will read AKAI sound directly I think, and with a third party software called Translator from Chicken Systems, Giga will read Kurzweil, Roland etc. Check this stuff out at www.tascam.com There is a link there to the GigaStudio site.

If you haven't read anything about Reason 2.0, you gotta go check it out at www.propellerheads.de

Reason 2.0 is going to feature a new synth that looks amazing, AND a new more full featured sampler. Plus you get the loop players, and analog synths etc.

Both of these pieces of software would run on your PC at the same time. Reason will run on a Mac. LOTS of mileage out of these two items.

One other thing.

You should check out Stylus, the new loop player from Spectrasonics. It'll open directly in ProTools as an RTAS plug. Has 3 GIG of samples which are loops, and one shot samples.

Great for the stuff you're doing. Check out the Mp3's below.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">the eMagic EVP88 is great at Wurly/Rhodes modeling. Its works super in Logic and is supposed to come out for RTAS this fall (if Apple allows).

just got my Reason 2.0 upgrade and I'm blown away by both the Malstrom graintable synth and the Orkester samples - very high quality

Isn't Reason supposed (even vers. 2)to be buggy?

Not everybody who does urban music likes Reason. I do have it. You should look into Emu MoPhat or even the MP-7, the Triton, and maybe a Yamaha Motiff. Alot of stuff that works great in the electronic music world sucks for Hip Hop and R&B. If you can find a good Rhodes or Moog soft synth, get that.
