And Eleven Rack is a no right now.

What specs are you going with on the new Mac Pro? I'm looking froward to knowing how well PT works with it.

Then don't update to Catalina, lol.

2019.12 is essentially the same as 2019.10. The only difference, besides a very small set of bug fixes, is 2019.12 can be installed on a Mac running Catalina, such as all those brand new Mac Pros out there, lol.

2019.12 still contains all of the same Catalina-incompatible 32-bit components that previous versions have...basically all the QuickTime components (in the Video Engine). Which is why Avid says don't use video if you use 2019.12 with Catalina.

Again 2019.12 is just so people with brand new Macs (that ship with Catalina) can install Pro Tools. Based on the bug fix list, it really isn't worth the update for anyone else. Waiting to see what 2020 brings!

Hey Carl

I will post our findings as soon as they arrive and we have installed and stress tested them with super large PTU Sessions with 300+ tracks and many many VI and Plugins.

We got them with 28Core as the 24Core version was such a small monetary difference to opt out of the 28 core and the 4TB internal SSD/Flash Drive. Also got 384 GB ram as we are not that keen on buying our own ram and messing with these brand new super costly machines. They need to work straight away and installed and forgotten about and not having to buy ram and drives and whatnot so they became extremely expensive but We will write them off tax wise within a year and make that money back really fast with placements of songs on Universal Music so we went a bit crazy

I will report as soon as I can. Need Catalina to play nice though so we can try all the plugins and VI and Autotune Melodyne 4 Etc and see what happens. We use all new X8 Series and X16 Apollo Interfaces but we will also try with our HDX2 system and see what happens.

I don’t think that is correct.

2019.12 has removed those 32bit components. If not, then it wouldn’t launch and is the reason why 2019.10 wouldn’t boot on Catalina.

Video Engine is now 64bit but some codecs are not which is why they are not installed and Avid made a warning about it. Expect to see "full support" on next release, but very nice they released PT for "most" this early.

So does video engine work with MXF on Catalina or not?
I was under the impression that they stated that Quicktime (Mov-embedded) workflows would not work. But DNxHD or DNxHR codecs embedded in MXF work right? So what is exactly the problem with video ?
I understand that some plugins are not compatible yet.

Btw 2019.12 runs better than 2019.10 for me under Mojave with 5,1 Mac Pro.

Indeed, it is stated that Apple killed 32 bit support with Catalina. The only way to run a 32bit with with a VM afaik. I can't imagine PT running 32bit process in Catalina, i think imo that the fact that PT 2019.12 is limited on import and video etc. is that they removed the 32bit process on it.

I don’t know why but 2019.12 seem to be more stable on 10.4.6 than 2019.10. It’s working really well here!
