I just got off the phone with a product specialist and was told that 6.1 for XP will ship out in bulk to registered users starting July 1st.

Re: 6.1 to ship out on July 1st
I hope this product specialist was from Digidesign.
Did he say if PTLE 6.1 would be posted in the download section? |

Re: 6.1 to ship out on July 1st
You probably will not be downloading PT6.1 since it will not be tied to your current authorization it will have a new authorization of it's own.
PT 5.3's biggist reason for download was the free factor which kept DIGI's cost down. |

Re: 6.1 to ship out on July 1st
Is this version free for registered users or not?
IF they will be shipping it out in bulk to registered users it would have to be free, right? If it is free why not let us download it with the serial number from PTLE like they did with 5.3.1 I would also like to know if iLock will be required. Will the version for the 002 also work with the 001 or are there two separate versions? As you can see, I am confused about several things. We are just like mushrooms.... you know the rest. Oh great Digi please grant me three questions. Rub rub rub |

Re: 6.1 to ship out on July 1st
These questions can all be answered by looking at how the Mac version was handled, and what's been mentioned in regard to that version...
PT 6.0 LE on the Mac was a paid upgrade unless you'd recently bought a new product. The cost of the upgrade was $75US. An exception was made for 002 users. iLok is only required for plug-ins not part of the basic package... iLok is not required for the DigiRack plug-ins. Other plug-ins will require the iLok. It was mentioned on the DUC that they're trying to get one version of software for all the different hardware.. I believe you may have only one core system (001, MBox, 002, 002/R) present at any one time. To use the 002 you'd have to remove the 001 and visa versa. Rail

Re: 6.1 to ship out on July 1st
Actually, as far as plugins go, most vendors have not restricted to iLok only. Waves and IKMultiMedia do not require iLok, although will start offering it at some point. IMHO, iLok is great, because you can install your plugins on sevral machines, as long as you use it only on one at a time. Obviously, I'm talling about how things have been so far on the Mac side, as I got version 5 a few months ago. I'm also a PC user, and eagerly awaiting the PC version. BTW, the very first release of 6 I got was flawless, so switching to 6 early on the PC may not be a risky proposition, although those that have income that depends on it may wanna wait.

Re: 6.1 to ship out on July 1st
Is PT 6.1 going to be an upgrade for those using PT 5.3.1 on the 001 box for Win XP? Just want to make sure I'm hearing this information correctly.

Re: 6.1 to ship out on July 1st
I spoke with a Digi service rep today about registering my 002R. Anyway, he said that Digi is unifying the numbering and that both the software for the 002 and and 001/mbox will be called 6.1, but... that the versions will be slightly different because the 002 supports 96k recording.
About the date for shipping, I can honestly say that I have never heard so much "waffling" from an official company rep. Would not use the words "1st of July", but pretty much stuck to "in a couple of weeks" line. Disappointing. Oh well, we almost had a product early release, but definately got a "hype" early release. One more interesting note. It seemed that this upgrade may be a CD only upgrade. When I asked about downloading the upgrade, (this is where a lot of the waffling came in) the rep didn't think there would be a download for 6.1 XP. At least that is the impression I was left with. All this makes me think that even if 6.1 is ready to go, all the release/marketing issues are not settled yet. Currently, I'm setting my expectations to get my PTLE 6.1 XP upgrade by mail around July 15.
